Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Not sure if Highway 39 is open for bikes, but according to Caltrans this morning, it is open for cars with a 20 minute delay. Hopefully GMR is right behind. The road has restricted traffic until October 15 according to the tape. Call your self at 800-427-7623

I met a rider on SGRT a few weeks ago who had family working on the fires. He said that most of the guardrails were burned away on GMR. If he's correct I'm betting it will be a significant amount of time until GMR is open again.

Yes, maybe a long time until open to cars, but hopefully not so long to walkers, hikers, and bikes. Think positive and keep your fingers crossed.

Besides the road damage, they'd still have to open the forest! I'd be checking with the ANF about that, not Caltrans or the County. Last I checked, still closed, indefinitely.

I drove up to the gate on GMR yesterday and spoke with the security officer parked in front of the closed gate. I asked him if there was any time line for the road being opened. He told me that there were still fires burning back there, and once they were put out, the area becomes a crime scene. After the investigation is complete, road repairs need to be made, and then Glendora PD, Glendora Fire, and the Forest Rangers all need to come together to approve of the road being opened again. According to the security guard, all that could take quite a long time. So...don't hold your breath.

So I take it we can't even hop the rail and take a quick rideup to Baldy? Bah.

I live in Glendora right below GMR and saw smoke and lots of flames at the area where the road goes over the ridge and is on the side looking down into Azusa Canyon, where you can first see the dams. that much was for sure. Not sure about higher up the road though.

Guardrails or not, they don't mean a hill of beans if you're coming down on a bike. You're going over the side just the same.
Road conditions are another story though.
I don't actually know what burned but I know the fire was west of eastfork and burned over to Hwy 39.

Does anyone know if they still keep the gate locked going up Big Dalton Canyon to the Experimental Forrest.. This is the road that goes right just before the gate up GMR..

I heard a rumor tht the gate to GMR is open. I wonder if it's open to GRR but not down to the East Fork
One of our bike club members rode GMR, saying it IS open. Husband says the same.

Yes, GMR is open. To Baldy via GRR and down to the East Fork also. I just got back from riding it this morning. Only thing is you have to look out for the motorcycles and deer hunters dressed up in camo. Was cold and a little bit wet but after being closed for as long as it was. I will take it.

How about Hwy 39?

I could see cars and hear motorcycles on 39 when I got to the point where you can see down into Azusa Canyon. Caltrans reported a couple of days ago that the road was open, and I just called them and their tape still says it is open with controled traffic.
