I just moved to Grand Prairie earlier this month and have made the trip out to B&B a few times checking out bikes and things as I was recently shopping for a bike. I was most likely going to buy used, so I was hesitant to bother any of the employees too much. I was, however, planning on buying some shoes and pedals from them as well as bringing whatever bike I bought to them for a proper fitting.

Well, I couldn't have been more impressed with the shop overall. Everyone I've talked to has been super friendly and even though I was up front about the fact that I was looking at used bikes, they didn't hesitate to answer any and all of my questions, give me advice on fit, shoes, etc. From the time I walked into the door to the time I left, there was always someone making themselves available if they didn't have other customers to tend to.

I finally bought my shoes and pedals on Friday, picked up a used bike on Saturday and took it in for a pre-scheduled fit yesterday (Monday). Jeff, the manager there, does all the fittings and he was a great guy who knew what he was doing. Turns out he's been working in bike shops since he was younger than 16 (I think he said 12?). Can't remember how old he is now exactly. Maybe late 20's or so? 30?

He took several measurements on the legs in different positions of the stroke, measured my sit bones to ensure the seat I had was the correct size for me, and when he noticed that I needed a slightly shorter stem, didn't push me to buy a new one and left it up to me as to whether or not I wanted to roll with the stock one for a bit and see if it works. I ended up going with the shorter stem.

He even gave me a short lesson on how to use the different positions on the bars, which was very helpful. I've been riding for a while, but with little to no real guidance. This was my first bike actually fitted to me.

Oh, and the basic 3-point fit, as they call it, only costs 50 bucks. I get the impression from this board that that's pretty reasonable.

All in all, I've been very impressed and pleased with the shop. I'd highly recommend that anyone in the southwest Dallas/southeast Fort Worth area go and check them out. There is some good riding to be had in the vicinity as well. They are just East of Joe Pool Lake.

I had a much different impression.

I could not get any help when I was in there. One lady was on the phone (business related), and came out from the back to say she would assist me as soon as she could, the other two people were too busy bashing George Bush with a customer to notice me and several other customers that came in and wandered around for almost 30 minutes (and with the size of the store, I saw everything 4 or 5 times).

Maybe you smelled funny?

Kidding, but seriously, thanks for the opposing viewpoint.

I even stopped by to look at rear lights last night and asked the manager's opinion on the lights. He could have easily sold me a 100+ dollar setup, but instead showed me what he used and recommended, which was out of stock, and said he would have some on Thursday. It was a 23 dollar light.

On top of it, he gave my wife some good info on where to do some lap swimming in the area and knew a place a couple of miles from out apartment.

We didn't talk about Bush.

Any other people here been to B&B that want to share their experiences? The more, the merrier.

I am not saying it is not a good store. It is a bit out of the way for me (unless I am riding in the area).

Bicycles, Inc in Arlington is much more convenient (to me) and is a much larger store.

Most agree that the best rear blinkie (in the under $30 market) is the Planet Bike Super Flash (PBSF). I have one for each of my bikes, and would not ride without it.

That is, indeed, what he recommended. Thanks for backing up the good reviews I've heard from everyone else on that light.

I've got two of them, but also discovered that at least one of them is not waterproof, either.
