hey there, I need some advice. I haven't ridden a road bike since I was younger, but want to get back to it. I, a-hem, acquired a Giant Boulder SE the other day, but would rather have a road bike. I wonder, is it possible for me to convert this bike? With street tires and wheels, and drop down bars? Is it worth my effort? I don't know anything about the geometry of road bikes vs. entry level mtn. bikes. I can't afford to buy a new bike right now; am putting a lot of miles on this bike, but it feels like a damned tank. Can anyone help me?

Sure ya can! Mainly just the tires would need changing. I wouldn't even bother with the bars, add some of those bar ends which will allow different hand positions and get pedaling!!!!

It's not worth it. The end result will be a heavy road bike. For the expense of upgrading it, you probably could have picked up a decent entry level used road bike.

get a used road bike with the down tube friction shifters. They are quite capable(not for crits) and very inexpencive(no fancy widgets just simple levers-easy to work on and cheap to replace too), a late 80s early 90s would probably be the best bang to buck. If you find one post it in the road bike section or get an experianced rider/home mechanic(that has experiance on this era) and ask for opinions before you purchase it, unless you know how to work on it yourself.
