ok so i got free durace 8 speed shifters and ultergra derailers the rear derailer is a 9 speed derailer and i have a 9 speed cassette my question is will the dur ace 8 speed shifters work with the 9 speed derailer and cassette?
sorry kinda a noob questions just wanted to know

You'll need an 8sp cassette for sure. The derailleur might work, pending cable pull issues. Others may know.

Nope - that's about the only combination that won't work. DA 8-speed shifters only shift DA 8-speed derailleur and cassette. Any 9-speed Shimano shifters will work with the rest of your stuff.
