Foo - That has to be one of the worst sounds in the world

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Heard a mouse trap go SNAP in the kitchen. That wasn't the bad part. The worst part was hearing it flop around for another 10 minutes before stopping.

There is one sound worse -- hearing the same visitor, before the catch, rustling up/down/all around your wall cavities.
Unfortunately there is in a house, or workplace. Cleaning crew put down glue traps, and one little thing was trapped and squeaked and other stuff and ... there was no rescuing it and it was sad. I did the dirty deed by putting him out of his misery (freaked my boss out by doing that). Those things, yeah - work but they are not really humane in ways :(:(

Pfft. You think that's bad?
One time when I worked as a painter there was a chipmunk stuck in a mouse trap under neath one the bushes at an old lady's house. Old lady asks if one of the guys can do something about it.
Chipmunk was still alive, very much so. Just stuck. Those mouse traps don't have enough spring tension to snap a chipmunk's neck.
So the guy picks up the trap and starts swinging it against the pavement trying to snap the chipmunk's neck. No go.
So he sets it down, and steps on it.
The crunch of that chipmunk's skull and the screech that followed was one of the most incredibly disturbing sounds I've ever heard.
you're all wusses :innocent:
Try loading up a top load toaster and setting it to toast, only to hear rattling coming from the toaster.
yes, that's right, one well done mouse.

The sounds of vermin dying? I'm totally ok with that, and I don't feel bad about them at all. What I'm not ok with is the sound of metal scraping metal, or metal scraping plates. UGH, that's horrible.
surprisingly, since we're so sloppy with food, if we went extinct, mice will have a hard time getting food.

How about the crunching sound your favorite pair of glasses makes when you drop them on the floor and accidentally step on them and destroy them.

I employ cats.
I don't know, the snap of a mouse trap is nice. It is the sound of the cat eating a mouse and crunching up the bones underneath your bed while you try to sleep that is one of the worst.:notamused:
I'm getting better at recognising the sound of the cat bringing inside another squeaky, furry plaything and can usually intercept the cat before she lets it go or kills it under my bed.

Teh kitteh STILL hasn't learned that no, mawmaw and mownum don't like it when he tries to give us dead animals as gifts. He'll still come in randomly with dead rat/bird/gopher/lizard, drop it at our feet and expect us to...I dunno, eat it or something. He gets mad when we throw said "gifts" back out, even if we praise him for being a good hunter.

Yeah, this sucks too. But still. Metal on metal/plate takes the cake for me.

I just remembered another horrible sound--the pitiful meow of the cats put up for adoption once you walk away from them.
I volunteer for the local petsmart adoption events some weekends, and last weekend there was this adorable gray and white kitten named Thomas. He was SO sweet, and he latched on to me like I was his mommy. When my shift ended and I had to leave, he made this sad, utterly pitiful meow while trying to get out of the bars of his cage.
I so wanted to adopt him...but I couldn't afford the adoption fee.

A great story (of many) from a woman who has had cats for years:
She heard the distinct I-have-a-present-for-you yowl from one of her cats at the back door.
She opened the door to see the proud cat with the present: a chicken.
A whole, plucked chicken just like you find in the supermarket, and it was even basted.:roflmao2:
Obviously, there was an empty backyard grill somewhere in the neighborhood.:(
And the icing on the cake: The backyard was surrounded by a 6' foot fence the kitty had to scale while carrying the chicken.

The only way our cats are going to kill a mouse is if Greenies are stuck to it. They're both addicted.
The dog, OTOH, probably WOULD kill a mouse for us.

Nice one...that's a dedicated kitty. Did they eat the chicken?

I agree. I used to work at an animal shelter and when I'd walk by the cat cages, they'd reach out with their little hands to grab your jacket and get your attention. When you walked out, you can hear their cries, "Meeeeee!"

I worked in a place that used those glue traps. One day I came in early in the morning and found one with two tiny mouse legs.
While I am a dirty hippy who doesn't enjoy killing animals, snap traps should kill instantly. If it doesn't, you are either using too small of a trap or you have some mutant mice.
My house backs up to farmland. Mix that with some shoddy construction of my house (I found a two foot by two foot hole in my basement last summer.) and mice are a constant problem. Them little guys can squeeze in any hole.

easy solution - outdoor cat.
Not so much a sound, as a sensation. Having to dispatch a possum that had been terrorizing the cats outside at night - with a flat bladed shovel. This was maybe 13 years ago, and I still get a bit queasy when it comes back to mind. Thanks for helping to bring that experience back guys. :thumb: :crash:

Nah, worse sound I ever heard was the bridge of my nose (and other face bones) cracking and crunching as a 6 foot 1x1 wrought iron gate pole came crashing down against it! :twitchy: Swollen face and racoon eyes for a month!

Yeah bones breaking has to be the worst. I still remember hearing a kid's leg get broken playing soccer in Jr. High school some 20+ years ago. It was awful.
As far as animals go I saw a big bull snake take out a rabbit a few weeks ago. The rabbit's squeals of pain and terror were pretty disturbing.

Worst noise in the world? The snapping noise you hear as you're leaving the house on your bike and you realize one of the bungee cords has come off your rear rack and is now wrapped around and through your rear spokes and hub. :(
