Foo - Dr. Martens shoe size problem..

I can't seem to find half-sizes on any of my favorite online stores...

I am a US 10-1/2 ...

Should I just go with a size 10 and hope they stretch???

I don't think they come in 1/2 sizes. I remember I bought a pair years ago and that's what I was told.

Size up, toss an insole in if you have to make up some space. The Doctor doesn't do half-sizes.

I read somewhere that the sizing changed since they are no longer made in UK. Your best bet is to wear the type of socks you'd wear with them, go to the store in the afternoon/evening (when your feet are sightly larger than upon waking) and try on the exact type you want to buy.

Docs can be a headache. I bought three pairs, all within a year of each other back around 1989-90 and even though they had the same size number stamped on, they each fit differently. One pair was way too tight, another needed two pairs of hiking socks or my feet were swimming in them. The leather looked exactly the same; only the color was different and one pair had the rainbow stitching.

I also hated how they broke in. But I do still think they look cool and they were nice smelling boots when new, fwtw.

I've since heard that walking in the ocean with them helps the break-in process immensely.

I have a pair of UK-made Docs that I bought for my student teaching (1997). Those shoes are still going strong. I have had two other pairs of non-UK-made that fall apart within a couple years. I'm not sure if I am going to buy another pair.

I don't know how people make their Docs last so long, I wore my sole paper thin in a year or two. And they were incredibly uncomfortable (I'm too cheap to buy new boots until the current ones are dead).

Yeah, mine definitely aren't going to last a lifetime. I've had them for... three or four years now. Still useable, but pretty worn.

My 10+ year old pair of Docs have a harder rubber sole. They are worn almost flat now. That's the only thing that shows real wear. They even have the original laces. I have a pair that are about three years old and they were worn flat in no time. They are also coming apart at the toe and the leather tore by the laces. (I'm not a shoe expert, so I don't know what that it called.) When they were made in the UK, they were well made and worth the price. Now they are just another overpriced shoe relying on a rapidly diminishing reputation to sell them.

I wear a 10 1/2 most times. The Doc 11s worked fine, especially since I was wearing a 2nd pair of socks for blister prevention.

Last week I was lucky to find a pair of NOS made in England Docs in my size for $10.00! They are making them again in England but the majority are made in China and Thailand and the quality is substandard - what a sell out that was! From my own experience they don’t stretch and back in the day they did make ½ sizes.
