Southern California - 2010 Tour of California Stage Cities

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Interesting.
I'm still against the move to May. Even then, all the high Sierra passes are closed. Onyx Summit to Snow Summit for the Big Bear Stage? Start in Redlands?
I'd like to try and follow most or some of the tour with my trailer. Venice won't be the best for that. We'll see as the rest of the info comes out and I can try to plan.

I'm not surprised after all the Bhorat-wannabes this year. (The horror... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHISWr4qLr4))

They say SD is a difficult area to hold a stage. Typical of SD county government. They ***** about how they need to bring events into town then make it next to impossible and cost a fortune. Funny because that was one of the favorite stages of both racers and spectators. But still, an urban TT in LA? Are they kidding? Will they be required to ride chopped-bar hipster fixers? Better get out the touring tires for that one.

thats a shame no real SD love. i wonder why they like North County so much. there are some really good rides through east county into and Past Alpine.

Big Bear unless there's the annual forest fire raging in the area! It seems like starting around May, it's the Fire of the Week Club south of 35º N. latitude in CA:eek:

There was more interest in bringing the race to SD when it was in February, during the off-peak season. The area really doesn't benefit by bringing in another event, especially a regional event that uses a lot of support services, in May.

Not much info/details yet. Wait a few days for the official announcement.

As far as Palomar, I know the organizers want a grand tour type mountain top finish.
Pretty much need a town or something for that.
Palomar doesn't really fit that bill, though a ski resort like Snow Summit might.

incorrect. case in point... mont ventoux

Yes, Ventoux goes against my stated reasons. I would call it atypical as most mountain finishes at least seem to have a ski station and/or town. What I mean is that AEG wants to have a big festival at the end.
I did notice on Ventoux this year that riders were wisked away in cars straight away.

Tommorrow or so is when ToC cities are supposed to be announced. I read in an article about Levi's Gran Fondo that the route will be announced on 10-22.IIRC last year the cities were announced awhile before the actual stages.I'm betting Levi will be on the start line; Lance I'd bet too. Without George and Levi, I don't think Lance would go to Italy. Was Johan B director at ToC last year?

Big Bear stage looks epic for any tour.

Sounds like the TT will be similar to parts of the Simi ride. Should get the whole route tommorrow.

the flatter, last couple of miles neuters a true mountain-top finish
but it is still a great stage. will likely be a strong breakaway group
trying to hold off the big boys from the mt baden-powell/dawson
saddle area to the finish. the descent to wrightwood will be a
fast one. will the cajon pass crosswinds be kicking that day??

IIRC from town to the base of the lifts is a good hill; though it will come after the relative flats from Baldwin Lake.

I may try and get up Santa Cruz to watch the end of Stage 3 this year.
