I have a Marin San Anselmo hybrid with suspension seatpost (BUM Insynch) and suspension fork (Rockshox Metro). I primarily ride on paved paths and don't really like having the suspension. Is it possible to adjust these components to lock the springs and eliminate the bounciness?

I removed the seatpost and then tightened the inner post (not sure of correct term ) with an allen wrench. I was able turn it clockwise about 10 turns. This moved it about an inch into the outer post and then it wouldn't go any more. It made the seat compress about 50% less when I first get on (1/2 inch vs. 1 inch) but it still has bounce in it. Was that the right thing to do? Is that the best I can expect or is there something else to try?

On the fork, there's a preload knob but I was afraid to start experimenting with it before I checked with you all. Is it more complicated than turning just one knob?

Thanks in advance for the input!

If you want to stiffen your setpost more than you have already, undo the screw at the bottom of the post and shake out the elastomer. Replace it with a wood dowell that's about the same size.

I'd not fully conversant with the RockShox Metro, but at that price range, I assume that it works the same way. You dial up the preload knob to stiffen the fork.
