Training & Nutrition - Know of a good Yoga training tape or book?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am a 54 year old male. Way back in the dark ages I took some yoga classes but I gave it up - and it shows.:( I would like to start up again but need a training aid. I'm trying to keep the old bones somewhat limber. There are no classes where I live.
Thanks.

I second the Yoga for Athletes recommendation- it also comes with a DVD so you can do your poses in the privacy of your own home....

I'm self-taught using Richard Hittleman's Yoga 28 Day Excercise Plan; look it up on Amazon, including for reviews. Over 28 days he illustrates various postures and then outlines a cyclic three-day plan for repeating the excercises. I've been doing it for years. He recommends, and I agree, that they should be done nearly every day, or you lose the postures. Each session requires about 20 minutes. The positions are of variable difficulty, but I can do almost all, including a full headstand. I continue to notice progress.
IMO, yoga is a good adjunct to bicycling, but I do my best yoga when I'm riding a lot. There have been other threads about yoga and bicycling on some Forums, including the 50+ Forum. One benefit cited by those who take classes is working with young ladies in leotards (this opinion does not necessarily reflect the views of Jim from Boston or Bike Forums--I'm just sayin'). :innocent:

A video is way better than a book so you can see how they get into and do each pose. This guy is very encouraging and motivational. And stong as a frigin ox...
This guy rocks and it's 15 bucks for 3 long workouts.....

It totally depends on the type of yoga you want to do. Power yoga? Hatha? Kripalu? Vinyasa? What level are you? I know you've said it's been a while, but how limber are you?
Also, where in Illinois do you live? I just can't believe there are no yoga classes in the area (not that I'm accusing you of anything)- sometimes, they're out there, just not advertised. Yoga instructors are creeping out of every crack and crevice. ;-)
If you want, you can also check with the Yoga Alliance. They have a listing of all yoga instructors (legit ones will register), and trust me... they are EVERYWHERE.
