I disassembled a Lemond Tourmalet I picked up for cheap, then had it powder coated. I picked up a few parts and need to start rebuilding it. The first challenge I see is installing the new headset. I know I need a press and maybe even a reamer/facer.

I have all sorts of tools, including a bike stand, but I don't have the reamer/facer or press. I like to work on my own cars, and I'd like to get more experience working on bikes.

Any DIY mechanics willing to lend a hand this Sunday? I will provide beer and food. I am located in Westchester north of LAX.

Thanks in advance.

Nick

As long as the inside of the headtube is clean (no paint or powder coat) you don't need a reamer. Some careful light sanding is generally all you need to clean any junk out.

I have used the same technique as in efficiency's link above since forever. Works a charm and it costs about $2.
