Why can i not get further than a 90° turn when i bunny hop? im kind of afraid im going to hurt myself trying, ive already caught the side of the seat between my legs a few times................ :(
any tips?
You just answered your own question. You can only do 90 degrees because you are afraid, and therefore hesitate to do full 180.
I suggest just going slow (If you go slow, it's very easy to bail.), then you have to turn slightly and jump (It's like doing a 'J' and hoping mid 'J'). Then when you jump, try looking backwards, your body should follow. Obviously you don't want to try flinging your head all crazy, but just looking back should help tons.
And get a Helmet, They will make you more confident knowing you won't hurt your head if you fall.

Use the foam pit at your local indoor park.

try turning back and forth rite before you hop it will help you get the turning momentum to go the full 180

I haven't gotten very far with the turns yet but I learned how to grind... I was afraid to even try it because I knew I would more than likely eat it.. but I can do it pretty well now..
It took me a pretty long time to learn 180s, and i still only get them like 50% of the time, if that.
Same goes for Fakies, and if you can't fakie, learning 180s is pointless.

......what's a fakie?....im new..
Use google for video, but it's basically going backwards. So you would 180, then have to fakie backwards, then turn out of it.
Here's a good video. Lets put it this way, i spend about a month learning to fakie and about a week to 180. So it's pretty hard.

You can't even see the text on that video. God-awful
Are you serious?
I can read every thing it says. I really only like it because it shows him what a fakie is, and a good way to start practicing (hitting a wall, and throwing weight backwards)

I guess. It might help more if you could actually read all of the steps.

Im on my cellphone and haven't had time to watch video on my computer yet. Is a fakie like when pro's are jumpin and doin tricks and they land backwards and then lean back and spin bike around forwards?
Yes, it's when they are traveling backwards, then turnout of it and go forward again.

After you learn how to stay fakie, it's soooo much fun.

This morning I would ride my bike up my driveway a bunch, and right when I would get to the top of the incline I would pause and then like pop a wheelie kind of, and spin the bike around and go down the driveway. Is that a fakie or am I just wasting my time?
Not a fakie. Fakie is where you go backwards. If your bike isn't physically going backwards, you aren't doing a fakie.

Ok. If I were going backwards would that be a fakie then?
Yes, that's what i said. And unless you have a free coaster, you will have to pedal backwards to avoid your driver from engaging.

Ok so I have to work on riding backwards without eating it. any tips?
I would be surprised if you did eat it, you only go like 2 miles an hour.
Try to do like in video in post #10, or just search "How to do a bmx fakie" on google

This board has rotted away into nothing...
To the OP, turn your head and neck further, look where you wanna spin and your body will follow.
Thanks for saying exactly what i said in the #2 post.

You said nothing like that, you didn't even mention turning your head and shoulders. Step off and let the people that actually ride give advice, you might learn something new.

Really now? I said nothing like that?
I said the exact same thing you said.
And you can try and say I don't ride, but I ride plenty. The fact that you stoop to that level just shows your true character.
Maybe if this place was more inviting it wouldn't have "rotted away into nothing"

If you can do it about 50% of the time, then i would try to learn 180s. But if you got lucky and you only got it once, you should keep trying until you almost have them dialed.
Another good thing to learn for beginners is footjams, and try to improve your bunny hops.

just look where you want to go and the bike and your body will follow you.
