Hybrid Bicycles - Ergon GC3 - Large Grip - Gripshift Length?

I'm looking online to buy the Ergon GC3 grips for my Sirrus, but I'm having trouble finding them in Gripshift Length with a Large Grip (they do make these, right?), so if anyone could help point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful. Thanks.

I just can't find it for sale anywhere online in the US. I've seen it on some European sites, but the prices are crazy (over $85 according to a currency conversion calculator and that's without shipping!). I've e-mailed a few of the online retail partners listed on the Ergon website, but haven't heard back from them yet on whether or not they carry these. Thanks for looking, though.

A better idea might be GP-1's, and switch the shifters out to clickers. Much nicer than gripshifts.

I thought the Sirrus came with clickers.

If you are patient, I've seen the GP-1's at Performance for less than $25.

I got my Sirrus used and the original owner had switched out the shifters, grips, and handlebars. What shifters would you recommend? It's a 2007 Sirrus Comp, so I'm not sure what's compatible. Does Ergon or anyone else sell bar ends like the ones on the GC3 that would connect to the GP1 grips? Thanks.

There are many Shimano compatible click shifters out there, many very inexpensive. E-Bay has several, under shimano shifters. Pick your speeds, and get a good price. 8 spd complete set including brake levers for $25, 9 spd of less than $50.

The nicest things about the GP-1's, is that they allow you to use any regular bar ends, and still let you mount a rear view mirror in the end of the bar. Many of the Ergons don't allow that. Using regular bar ends, give many more options.

I use my bar ends (angle set to accomodate a relaxed, normal, hand angle) for alternate hand position, and also hook my thumbs on them like riding on the hoods.

A side benefit, is the inexpensive Ergons.

I see what you mean by the price though. The handful of places I see them online are $70+ USD.:eek:. Love Ergons, but that's pretty steep for any type of barends IMHO.

Jeff from Ergon is a member of BF. Look up username "Ergon" in the member list and send a PM with your question(s). Kinda suprised he hasn't chimed to offer some insight. He was all over BF and MTBR just before / as the new line came to market.

I wonder why the 9-speed shifters cost so much more? I don't know if I can afford to switch back to click shifters. My bike has SRAM Attack gripshifts on it now and they seem to work just fine, so I'm wary of changing them for that price. It's the whole "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" mentality. I'll have to keep my eye on eBay and Craigslist, though. Might find a bargain.

The cheapest I can find the GP1s for right now is around $25. Also, I was looking at bar ends and couldn't really find anything as nice as the integrated bar ends on the GC3s. I don't ride in any high-traffic areas, so a rear-view mirror is not a major concern for me. Also, I need to get a new flat bar, as well, because the stock handlebar has been changed to a riser bar that sweeps back a bit and I don't like the look or feel of it very much. I think the stem is different, too, but I can't be certain. I have a feeling I'll be spending more money than I anticipated trying to get this bike the way I want it.

Yeah, I noticed that, as well. Some appeared to have the Large grips (standard length), but they were all out-of-stock, if I remember correctly.

I've seen new 9 spd Shimano shifters for $20-$30 range - I just can't remember where - I'll try to dig some up.

Purchased a set at Competitive Cyclist (https://www.competitivecyclist.com/mountain-bikes/product-components/2009-ergon-gc3-grip-4640.2476.0.html) a couple of days ago. If their site inventory is up to date, they appear to have more of the large in stock.
