Anyone have a source for french-threaded freehweels? I have a pair of newly acquired french-threaded hubs that I'd like to use, but freewheels to fit them are obviously difficult to come by.

E-Bay might be your only option (usually used) and you'll be lucky if somebody is selling NOS:

ebay.fr with your usual login, search term roue libre x vitesses (x being the number of speeds). Buy from pros only, they'll ship Stateside and be reliable in telling you if a thread is French, Brit, Italian, or Alpha Centauri.

I'll jump right in with this dumb question - French threaded freewheels are threaded differently than freewheels on French bikes made for export to the US?

Some people here that know French bikes insist that French import bikes often Have French-threaded freewheels, but I've never encountered one.

I've passed up NOS Maillard 700 hubs on eBay because they had French threads and I didn't think I'd be able to get freewheels.

Problem I'm having is a '74 Motobecane with French-threaded hubs and a set of gorgeous HF campy record hubs that sadly are also French-threaded. You can get an English freewheel started on the threads but it won't go all the way on.

Don't do that!

Just spring for the real deal: FRENCH threading! Contrary to your initial post, there are plenty around.

I know it's a bad idea to try to force it on. But when those threads are unmarked there's only one good way to know what you have.
