I recently bought a Cannondale Road Warrior 600 and am having problems with shifting. The shop (REI) claims that there is a design problem where the straight bar with mountain shifters and triple ring do not all work together. Does anyone know if it is the shop or the bike?

It's the shop.

Defintatly the shop. Shimano's road and MTB front shifting are almost identical, and should be repairable by any compitant mechanic.

Since when did REI become a Cannondale retailer?

Will mountain shifters work smoothly with front and rear road deraillers?

They are absolute morons. Shimano has a line of flat bar shifters designed specifically to work with such componentry. But, that's what you get when you go to REI...

It's the shop! I work at REI and we have no such problems. Call the REI and speak to the store manager or the master technician because you had someone pulled that reason outta there ARSE!!!
