Hi
Just got into riding fixie, as well as the whole "do really long skids" thing which im sure most of you think is pretty stupid but for the moment i find it entertaining.
It obviously kills your tires... i was wondering if there is a cheap tire for sale somewhere that is made for dicking around and sliding and such? or some sort of spray that you can put on your rear wheel to make it have less traction and last longer? XD
Im riding on the original road/cruiser tires that the old bike came with so i dunno if they are super soft or something but just the slightest skid puts patches on them.
Maybe ill try some WD40 and i Cant Believe its not Butter.

lol, it's probably just a phase, unfortunately i'm still stuck in it.
i usually buy a bunch of semi-used tires from the local bike co-op. pay about five bucks a pop for tires of varying quality, but i don't care since i'm just wasting them.

Just an idea, but back when I was a kid (ahem) we used to skid on cedar shakes we found and put in the road. 'Used to love that.
Slippery, but fun.

spray? try Pam.
The Soma Everwear - is that it? - has a big thick middle area, made to skid your head off. Otherwise, just go to Nashbar and get whatever is cheapest, if you're gonna blow through 'em fast.

put mobil 1 10w-30 full synthetic oil on your tires, front and rear, for the ultimate skidz. Also, throw your leg over the handlebars, and put your other one through the frame. You buildup more points this way. To do a front wheel skid, wrap your front leg around the fork, and jam your foot in the spokes, lean back a little and ZzZzzzzZZZZ is the sound your front tire will make as you skid into a parked car.
anyway, skidding destroys tires, no matter what kind they are. my advice is dont waste your money on expensive tires you think are more durable in hopes theyll stand up to skids better, they wont. they may last an extra week or two, but if you plan to skid a lot, get some cheap ass kendas and gearing that will allow a lot of patches, i.e. 46/17

Here's a good resource for tire info - http://www.fyxation.com/blog/bicycle-tires-101
I would listen to the advice given though - skidding = wear = buying more tires.

nah, gatorskins will wear out. they're nicely flat-proof but they'll square off with a lot of skidding. also i've found them to be sticky, which is good for control but not great for "i want to skid my head off down long side streets." and they do get worn out.
