Thanks

I am definitely among the least knowledgable people here, but I'd say no. I bought my 916 for $225 and were I to sell it, would ask about 400 (I am NOT selling it...this isn't an offer!). I am pretty sure the 916 is a much more valuable, higher end bike than the 512.

If you want a bike right now, it would be an OK deal here is Seattle market. If you want a good - great deal wait a little longer and be patient, or ask the seller to lower the price.

KonAron Snake.. from what I know from spotting your here, you are NOT anywhere near the least knowlegeable here. Your having, as well as your evaluation of your bike and the one posted bears that out. You got a great deal on yours and it should fetch 400 if......
PERTAINING to the bike in question...YES, it's worth it. I'll save the full-blown analysis.
It's a good deal for sure IF it fits. It's a large frame, not for a 5'10" rider, more like 6'+ depending on individual taste. the size is where you're vulnerable if you're vulnerable at all.

Old and New...thanks for the compliment, however underserved. I should say that it did need some work when I purchased it (which certainly influenced price).

TT version?? with smaller front wheel.Georgena Terry-designed women-specific model. Note the 44cm size. I have one in 48cm. They are excellent for shorter riders.

Worth the price if the wheels are straight, hubs not worn out, components in good working order. Could be found cheaper, but you can also buy a rather similar frame new (frame only) for much more. So its in the eye of the beholder. I say buy if it looks like its in good shape, and overhaul before riding

First off, I don't think anyone under 6' 1" should be riding this bike.
Second, this is exactly what I've been railing on about the difference in pricing in old bikes throughout the country. Wrk101 is a trusted voice on the value of bikes in his neck of the woods. I've commented before that it seems that bikes in the major areas of the West Coast will get $25-50 more. If a fair price for that bike would be $275 on the East Coast I think $325 would be fair here.

Definitely right! It is critical for valuation to understand YOUR market. I am continually surprised what even junker bikes will sell for in places like San Fran and Portland, Oregon. I would call my market a little better than average, but not super hot. So I will see higher prices than Rocco and Robbie see in their part of the Carolinas. On vintage Japanese bikes around here, the max is around $250 to $275, unless it is a touring bike. I have a 1988 Miyata 712 in the queue right now. We'll have to see what I get for it.
I can only comment on my local market, as I have enough data to have a pretty decent idea what bikes will sell for here.

That's why those of us in hot markets wish we could take box trucks to other markets and haul it all home. I brought home some sweet finds from wisconsin today.

I just bought a '88 Miyata 512 here in chicago for 395$. Owner claimed NOS (well had ~20 miles) on it. It certainly looked the part, original miyata tires, shimano components, etc... My only problem is that I mis-measured the frame I was trying to replace with this bike! They're both the same dimensions!

$225-250 in Tampa on a very, very good day. Keep in mind that its struggle to sell 105 equipted bikes for $300.....the 512 is 1 level below a bike like the 712 that would be equipted with 105.
