My favorite classics approach: San Sebastian, sunny, hilly, romantic Spain, and the Tour of the Falling Leaves, the Tour of Romandy, my favorite time of the year to ride. :)

The Tour spectacle has been popular this year.
I mean, Sportscenter highlighted every stage! On most US centered sports stations and shows, I've been seeing much more talk than in the past.
As people begin to watch the Tour, they can begin to learn and understand bicycle racing better, and become a fan.

As Laggard said, there will be some more great racing this year.

Don't forget Athens! :)

I was just thinking about what we'll be doing for the upcoming races. Can't wait for the Olympics too!

OLN hasn't posted their fall cycling schedule yet.

Not that we need them.

Clasica San Sebastien is going to be good, but the races I'm really looking forward to now are the Vuelta and the Tour of Lombardy. Paris - Tours too.

There's racing all year round. I watch as much MTB coverage as I can too. I even try and follow the cyclocross races.

too bad the Coors Classic isnt still alive, bet we could have a great forum about that one :)

He always did well at San Sebastian.

Hinault won the Vuelta/Tour double in '78, Anquetil in '63 (I know that was in the early season calendar slot, I just had to mention it.)

Eddy only won the Vuelta once (the same year-'73-as one of his five Giro wins). He did, however, win the Tour/Giro double three times, compared to Hinault's twice and Anquetil's once.

The media might tell us that the Tour is the only race worth winning but we don't have to agree.

Back in my younger days I used to read Velo News to follow the races, is this still a good magazine to keep track of the bike racing scene?

I'm waiting for the classics to kick back into action. Definetly want to see the cricket, bettini, try and win some one. It would be really awesome if rebellin, well rested, could peak again and take another classic or at least take the world cup overall. The Vuelta I think this year, with many TdF contenders not having the rides they wanted should be even better than normal. I love the vuelta, seems more attacking and the climbs are always exciting to watch. The olympics too should be really good. Julich is riding very well in the TT. Will Jan defend his gold? I don't think so but I am going to love watching him try. I'm also going to try and catch some track cycling, never seen that before.

Does OLN cover these as well? I pulled down each stage of the TdF from supernova.org torrents (Don't have cable). I'd like to watch whatever I can even if I have to download stuff.

True, there's plenty more racing to come. Perhaps a chance for the rest of the USPS team members to shine (I wonder which channels will actually cover the lesser known races?). I'm also looking forward to the Olympics cycling events.

Interesting how I FIRST saw LA in the 1992 Olympics road race. I think he finished in the top third. NOW look at Lance: 6 times Winner of the TdF!!! :beer:

Their coverage of the single day races in the fall is usually a bit low. But maybe we will see some hour highlight shows.

I would assume that they will have daily live coverage of the Vuelta though. They did in 2002 and 2003. (although tape delayed on weekends)

This past spring OLN covered the Giro and last fall they covered the Vuelta, in both instances w. daily live coverage with tape-delay on weekends. They also covered serveral shorter stage races and one-day races, albeit with much less extensive coverage which was generally delayed for a week or 2 or more.

I hope OLN continues to cover these races, although from reading some posts on other threads here I imagine OLN might get the impression that a majority of the US viewing audience would not bother to watch a race unless Lance was in it :p

Hope not. They'd have to drop all the classics and every bike race they've ever done except the Tour de Lance... I mean France! :D Let's hope they pick up more on the fact that we'd like to see more cycling races run on OLN, and more information about all the riders... including and especially the American ones!

Thanks for the invite. If I may suggest, Lotek and don d. did a great job setting up the sub-forum for each stage (Many Thanks). That was a fantastic idea and I found it extremely useful. I typically can't get any of the stage races or the Vuelta, but I would love the commentary found here on the forum. You may do this and I didn't notice, but the same format for the other races this year would be great. Also, like the 'post no spoilers' request.
