Foo - I fired up the Laserdisc player today

I found it in a closet when I moved in. I've been meaning to try it out, but never taken the time. I was confused briefly by the Thai characters on the RCA jacks.

But after probably half a decade or more sitting in the closet, it appears to still be running like a champ.

Not much to watch though. I've got Raiders of the Lost Ark, Lawrence of Arabia, some really lame Disney movie called Cheetah with Thai subtitles, and an imperial crapload of Thai karaoke discs.

Just some old time fun I thought I'd share.

I'd love to come across a laserdisc player, for the singular reason of being able to watch Star Wars on something other than fragile-ass VHS.

I don't know about that. Judging by ebay, there's a lot of them out there, and not a lot of irreplaceable media for them...except the original Star Wars trilogy.

A used book store around here had a stack and a half of those discs on sale for a buck each a few months ago.

I had 1 before MTV was around. I think I had Escape from NY? I never herd of anyone having one after that

My favorite though is the 1933 version of King Kong with a secondary soundtrack that is a fascinating history of the making of the movie.

Those things were awesome! Gigantic record-sized CDs basically. If I remember some movies still used both sides of the disc.

Yep. I think my player actually has a laser on top and a laser on the bottom so you don't have to flip the disc halfway through.
