OK, not directly C&V, but I did see and talk to a guy on a 1973 Raleigh Twenty folder!

Today was the event that those of us in the Hudson Valley of NY have waited almost 20 years for. Some crazy people once presented a plan to turn an old rail line and the mighty bridge that spans the river into a linear park, and today it happened! I rode the newest segment of the Dutchess Rail Trail a few weeks ago, and today we walked (way too crowded to consider riding) the 1.25 mile bridge and feeder path.

I wrote more about the day on the Northeast Board, so will just leave you with the web link. I'll get some pictures up when I have time to get them off the camera.

I had to miss this today unfortunately. My biker gang was there in full force at the parade though.

I grew up in downtown Po-town. guy's I hung with were not considered charming. Then again neither was I. The bridge was our stomping ground...some things are best left unsaid...
For me at least...as Stephen King says.."the world has moved on"
Oklahoma is a lifetime away....Thank God

I'm glad they cleaned up the area..still have a brother who is in the area...he says it has changed dramatically.

Like most American cities, parts have improved with the stable economy over the past 10 years, some parts still have a long way to go. We live in hope that the current downturn doesn't undo all of the good that has been accomplished.

Investments like the rail trail, the walkway, the re-opening of Main St., increased police presence, etc., have all had a major impact in improving the environment.

Check out the North County Trail in Westchester County. It is the old Putnam train line that shut down in 1958. You can catch it near the Tarrytown Resevoir and take it up into Putnam County, or vice versa. There are also remnants of the line in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. One of the original train stations along the line (path) is now a library.

I don't know anything about the area, but that looks like a great park - I like it when things from the past are repurposed for the future


last time I was in Chicago, I spent some time up on the Bloomingdale Rail "trail"

Looks neat - I was born in Red Hook, though I grew up her in Texas. Next time I go to visit the Hudson Valley I might take my bike.
