I am in Bay Isle Key apts. and looking for some riding partners. Anyone on here live close by?

Welcome to BF. I'm in Tampa, but ride often over in Pinellas on a regular basis as well. Have to suggest that you hook up with the St Pete Bike Club (http://www.stpetecycling.com/) They've got very regularly scheduled rides and regardless of skill set or level, you're more than likely to find someone that would be your equal.

Thanks Drew, I've been on their website, I have yet to hook up with them to ride though. I believe they ride out of northshore park pretty much everyday.

I'm over the bayside and south a bit from you
there are a few group rides out of Ride & Roll Cyclery in Largo (west bay and the p.trail)
I'm not that fast yet my average speed is 17-19 my max is right at 30
I'm also working on building up my endurance my rides have only been 6-23 miles so far
I rode a century way back in `92 and I plan on riding the Horrible Hundred 11-15-09 in Clermont

How about 30 miles from the St Pete Pier down to the Sunshine Skyway Fishing piers and back?

My average speed is 12-14 usually. my longest ride to date was 28 miles, and highest speed is 25. If you want to ride the pinellas trail or meet up with me and my buddies for a ride in tampa just let me know.

I tend to ride the Clearwater East West trail a lot, sometimes i'll hit Morris Bridge or Flatwoods with my buddy in Tampa.

i'm in orlando, clermont's a haul for the both of us...
a hr for me ... should take you about 1 1/2

i ride it normally on a sunday
avg 15-17mph on the flats, trying to pace it nice and easy for the hills (i'm not built to climb)

it's casual and social.... planning on riding the 35mile loop next time out
and then some more riding once back into clermont

Avanti, EvilDrew, Uberalles, Anyone else following this thread. I'm doing some of the organizational stuff for next year's Tour de Cure for the American Diabtes Association. This is a training ride I'm putting together for them. Don't have many takers yet as it's not until March next year (long way off), but will admit, trying to get some more people riding in it as well. Either way, more than welcome to come on down for a self supported ride - rest stops available, but no bennies.

Location: 901 N Shore Dr NE St Petersburg, FL 33701- Pull into parking lot on right side of pool and follow it around towards a dog park - Parking's free.
Description: Start out at The Northside Pool parking lot then go down past The Pier to Maximo Park, out to the Sunshine Skyway Fishing pier via the Meisner bridge then back up to The Pier. Option for a quick snack a the Columbia Restraunt out on The Pier and wrap it up back to the park.

There's a bail-out/turn around points that will enable 12 and 20 mile rides in addition to the full distance of 28 miles.

Rode 56.4 miles we did the sponge docks and Fred Howard park and skipped the 3 bridges.
Head wind all the way home was brutal.

We hooked up with a group out of Chain Wheel Drive as we came out of Fred Howard park.

Doing any rides coming up in the next week or so? Trying to figure out where to ride this weekend.

I'm moving to Gulfport from New Jersey the end of November and prefer riding the trail as I've been hit twice by cars in the last three years on the road.

I ended up riding with a girl from the Grupetto meetup group. It was a good time. I'm thinking about venturing down to the St Pete club to see how their Saturday ride is, and then doing the Sunday ride with the LBS on West Bay drive near Clearwater Largo road....

I think we are either doing a San Antonio hill ride this SAT or the Ride&Roll morning ride

I saw the Grupetto meetup advertising the San Antonio ride on Sat morning. I think I'm going to try it. Which one are you going to? I want to meet up and do a B ride, I think that's about where I'm at, and it's time to stop thinking about it and do it.

Lol, yeah, I'll be skipping that one too. Do you know of any rides near us that are more in the 18-20mph range? I think I need to do that for a bit more before I jump up to the next level.

I'm definitely going to be doing the ride 'n roll Sunday event (which ends up being 18mph normally). It ends up being around 25 miles, and I tack on another 5-10 when they are done so I am around 30-35. It's simply too close to me to pass up.

the st. pete club rides on Sat. are sweet as there are plenty of speed groups and different distances...great rides!

Hopefully I will be out for the RnR ride this weekend. Now that I finally have some medicine for my sinus infection, hopefully I can get back on the bike. I haven't riden in 2 weeks now.

I'm new to both Bike Forums, the St. Pete area and I wouldn't mind meeting up for a ride. I live in the Kenwood area about two blocks from the Trop.

I've been trying to find out what groups do afternoon or evening rides. I could force myself to get up in time for a morning ride on the weekends, but I've always been a late riser. ;)

I'm really new to riding, so fair warning to anyone that wants to ride. When I say new, I mean I literally did not learn how to ride a bicycle until back in June or so of this year. I'm 27 years old now and man do I wish I discovered cycling sooner!

Were you riding north along the Skyway path around 5:30-5:45pm? I saw a cyclist along the path in a red jersey while driving home from work. Just curious.

I live in largo and I'm always looking for people to ride with. I really want to ride today as a mater of fact. I should be off work around 4 and as soon as I lube the chain, I'm ready to roll. I did 52 miles yesterday, so today will be an easy ride. Maybe meet someone in the st pete area wants to meet and do a beach ride, that would be cool.

bustedspoke, you should head over on sat mornings to the park by the Vinoy. The st. pete bike club meats there and they have several different speed groups to ride with. The first groups leave out around 830.

Carlspeed, I am still probably a couple of days yet before I being ready to ride again. I just starting to get over my sinus and ear infection that I have had for the last week. I hope to ready by the weekend. Carl have you ever done the sunday morning beach ride? Its usually about a 20-22 mph ride except for the stretch from johns pass to park blvd. it usually gets to pretty good pace through there. I live on the beach, and wouldn't mind meeting up one evening for a ride. You should ride with avanti and I next monday night. We usually leave from 102 ave and the trail around 7 pm.

Sounds like fun. I'm out sundays from now on, but I would be interested in that monday night ride.

I'm not far from southern st. Pete, so on the weekends, I wouldn't mind riding down there. What times do you like to ride? During the weekdays, I can pretty much only do evenings. On the weekend, I'm a lot more open.



My schedule this week is so loopy at the moment. We're still settling in to our new place here. Last minute moving in tasks. Moving, I hate it!



From your avatar, do you autocross? Back in '04-'06, I also used to autocross. My car was a Miata too! I ran in E-Stock and used to do events with the Dixie region. I would also head down and do the Deland CFR events and an occasional Martin event.

Yes, it is autocross. I run in SSM, but with my current schedule it will be a while before I can go to an event again. My weekend are limited to evenings after this coming one, and my weekdays are open after about 4. I'll send you a pm with my number so you'll have it.
