For the past year and a half I've been wanting to get a solid Road bike. I live in a city that is easily accessible everywhere by bike and am quite over using my car. Trekking just outside the city allows access to low traffic long roads through the 'country'. So to the point.

I've been reading reviews around the web and talking to people at the local bike shop. It seems that a decent price / performance bike range is Bianchi's 2004 set. The question is now, do I start out minimally with a 650$ Brava or do I set myself up for longer with the 1100$ Eros.

From what I've heard the Eros frame is quite nicer and the components are much better. I have a feeling that this bike would last longer than a Brava. Though the Brava is definitely a cheap way to get into cycling and I'm starting for fitness purposes. I spend all day behind a computer and just want to be able to drop everything and go cycle for a few hours three or four times a week. The local bike shop has weekly time trials and 20 mile sprints also.

Does anyone have personal experience with the Brava? I read alot more feedback on the Eros since it's obviously a higher quality bike and people who are more knowledgeable than I go for that. I am just starting, total beginner. Should I just go cheaper for now?

If I went cheaper I would also purchase a Milano from Bianchi in a few months to cruise around my university and get to the store and such. Any feedback on the Brava would be great as I haven't found much. Shame it's not in that beautiful Celeste color.

Go with the Eros, the Brava frame is decent, but you'll shred through those sora components quickly.

Yea I suppose the main things that have popped up, is that the Eros frame apparently feels much better, and the shifter on the Brava is clunky. But I just wonder how much I, being a complete beginner, will notice this.. and if it will pop up as a problem as I just really want to do distance riding to up my fitness level.

The eros is a much better bike, tho the geometry is different.
The brava has more of a racing geometry as where the eros is more a touring geometry.
The components on the brava would work for you for a while, but then you would want to upgrade eventually, and that could be costly.
good luck and post pics when you get your new ride

After reading more and more. I think I'm going to definitely go for the Eros. If I'm gonna start I might as well start right. It's maybe 300-400 out of my budget, but I think I can do a little wheeling and dealing and manage to come up with that. I'll definitely post pics when I get it hooked up. Then I'll spend the rest of my days down at the cross town trail till school starts. :D
