Stumbled upon a 1910 Westminster bicycle. Almost bought it on the spot but for an issue with tires. The rims are wooden and appear to be 26 inches in diameter and 2 inches wide. The original tires are still mounted on the rims but need to be replaced. They appear to be a tubular style, i.e. glued to the rims. My question is, where would I buy such a tire?

From my talking with the seller it sounds as if there may be 2 of these bikes for sale. Does it make sense to buy them both and keep one for myself and sell the other? Do people make money restoring bikes?

Let me say in closing this bike is very special. Wooden rims, wooden bars, all original parts (hand grips, tires, seat). If you love bikes, this will knock you out of your chair.

If anyone has any information, please post.

Tufo produces some wide cyclocross tubulars, so maybe that would be a good place to start.

In the picture, that frame is very large for such a short man.

The Wheelmen (www.thewheelmen.org) are the people you want to contact about restoring antique bikes.

Donald Adams "Collecting and Restoring Antique Bicycles" (A good book) suggests that Coker Tire Company orfChattanooga, Harper Machine Co. of Dunbar, WV and Universal Tire Co. of Lancaster PA can manufacture single tube pneumatic tires.

The bike looks sweet. I don't know if anyone makes money restoring bikes. I think mostly people spend money doing it.

I'm looking for just the right antique bike myself...
