Bicycle Mechanics - Popping noise after changing tube - no loss in pressure?

Yeah, as you probably guessed I am new at this; I did search the forum but I couldn't find a similar problem posted so I'll just ask:

I just changed my tires and tubes. After pumping up the tire, I heard 3 distinct popping sounds. The tube didn't lose pressure, so I don't think it's a pinch flat (I don't know if they even make noise). Could it just be the tube adjusting? Is this normal or is it possible that I did a poor job and wrinkled up the tube somewhere?

Depending on the rims, this may be the tires seating themselves. I've got one set that doesn't seat till I've got over 80 lbs. of air in them. They make a pretty loud pop when they finally seat.

The noise you heard could be a lot of things. What was the sound like? What type of pump did you use? Could be the bead seating. Could be the spokes changing tension. Maybe the tube was slightly pinched but was able to escape when air was added or just the tube un-twisting.

Just took the bicycle for a ride and all seems to be in order so I thank you all - it must be either the bead seating or the tube adjusting itself. Glad it's not a major issue. Thanks everyone!

Try putting a small amount of air in the tube before mounting. This will make the job easier and help avoid twists and wrinkles. Too much air will make the job harder instead of easier. On a road bike the right amount is about what you can blow into the tube with your mouth.
