Advocacy & Safety - Are cyclists entitled to the roadways?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

A bicycle is not a motor vehicle. The state does not require a test or require the cyclist to insure the bicycle. There are laws established which govern the use (and sometimes prohibition) of bicycles on public roadways- which are supported by the taxpayer.

For example, "single file, closest to the curb" is law in many states. On many occasions, groups of cyclists are seen riding on busy highway access roads or streets in groups, only to make a statement and risking their lives to do so. They are known to give the finger to passing motorists who they feel 'deserve it'.

Makes you wonder the stupidity of the cyclist who rides in heavy traffic putting one's self at high risk. I think all cyclists who put themselves in this situation are serious asses.

I generally consider myself more frivolous than serious...

Where practical, I do ride either on lower-speed (25mph/40kph) streets or on arterials with either bicycle lanes or sharably wide curb lanes. However, sometimes the only reasonably direct route between my desired "Point A" and "Point B" is a major highway, on which I may occasionally need to "take the lane." The issue here is access to the PUBLIC road system and freedom of mobility. I have the right to travel without burning dead dinosaurs.

I usually stick to side walks or bike lanes in the busy areas. Or head out to the country to ride the roads. Traffic is way to horrible around here to even worry about riding on the road half the time.

Someone said it was? I smell trolling.

Newbie with one post, this is the most blatant troll I've seen in the entire history of bikeforums, stretching back to Oct 99. Blatant misinformation in the original post, then calling people serious asses. I'm closing this thread for now. Any serious objections can be directed to me via PM.
