Here's the data: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/15350038

It was pretty windy. There were sections with a tailwind where we were doing 30. Sections with a headwind and just crawling. Most of the time it was swirly. Not much shelter.

A couple of times today Jason and Joe both commented on how much my wind breaker was billowing out behind me. I know it's too big. I bought it 30 pounds ago and it was a bit snug then. Now it's huge on me. Finally, when nearly done with the ride, I removed it. Speed went from 15 to 18, with less effort. That calculates out to about 40 watts, give or take. Note that I used an online power calculator and figured on a 5mph headwind (which was probably a reasonable estimate) and flat.

Ok, after giving up about 40 watts all day long I've decided to buy a new jacket. One that fits. Shopping starts this afternoon. On the up side, I burned a mess of extra calories.

Stick to European brands or race cut gillets, even size smalls in American sizing are like parachutes.
I've not found that I really need more than fleece arm warmers, jersey, base-layer, and maybe a vest. If I needed a vest, I usually needed toe covers.

It does get a lot colder where you live though.

I picked up a new jacket yesterday, and a new windbreaker (it was on clearance at 1/2 off). We'll see how it goes. They're a size M now. My other jacket is a L. Lots of extra material there. I should be in better shape for Foxy's anyway.

I have the same issue with my jacket, it's like a sail.

It's the best-fitting one I've found.
