Bicycle Mechanics - I can't get my cranks off

Hey everyone. It seems like I'm doing everything right: 1) Threading the crank puller into the crank threads. and 2) turning the crank puller handle until the crank comes off, but for some reason it just won't come off. My crank puller may be suspect. I'm using the Performance branded one that says it's compatible with square taper, ISIS, and Octalink. The reason I'm suspicious is that Park Tool has two separate tools - the CCP-22 for square taper and the CCP-44 for ISIS and Octalink. Does anyone have any experience with the Performance's Spin Doctor branded crank puller?

If you have an Octalink, here's a trick to know: After you remove the bolt, there should be a little washer inside. These washers need to be removed BEFORE you thread in the crank-puller. Otherwise what you describe would be the outcome.

It doesn't matter. Some crankbolts have a spacer underneath them. Check this first or you'll strip the extraction threads which won't be good. Your crank puller doesn't do both without some sort of conversion piece. It's probably included and you'll have to figure out how to remove it to pull it. My guess is that it's setup right now to pull the ISIS style cranks, which requires a bigger conversion piece than for square taper.

They make TWO specific tools but that doesn't mean it's necessary. You can't infere anything from that. You can easily use a the square taper park puller to do ISIS with the correct thingmajib (don't even know the proper term for it), plug?

On my Park Tool CWP-7 (and the CWP-6), there are two floating heads to choose from. The larger of these is for the Octalink and ISIS systems. The smaller head is what you'd want for removing your square-tapered cranks. After you check for those pesky washers.

Well it turns out I was just too weak. I took a hammer to the crank puller handle, and eventually the drive-side crank came off. Now if only I had a pipe to get some more leverage on the other side...
