This last Saturday we did the hour and half drive to FW and took our tandem on the Trinity Trails. We started at one of the trailheads south of I-30 and went north and then east of downtown to the end of the trail. From there we tried to cut back through Greenway(?) park, but wound up just riding on the streets back to downtown. We went around downtown a bit and then locked up at Barnes and Noble, and had a beer and nachos across the street at 8.0 (?). The rain was threatening so we asked around and found the trailhead at the courthouse, got on, and headed back south.

We just beat the rain. It was fun riding on a smooth trail and having a place to stop for a beer. Mrs. Mono even enjoyed the lack of traffic.

This was the first time we had ever had the tandem on a busy MUP trail. We had no problems but a few walkers should beware of getting hit head-on by a tandem when walking two wide and taking the whole path.

Just saying that I'm a little envious of such a great place to ride. We even saw a couple of other tandems. Maybe someone saw us on our big orange tandem.

Sounds like a good time. I've been over there a time or two from Garland, and enjoyed riding the trails, too.

There's a whole 'nother stretch that runs SW of town out to Benbrook Lake. There's still more to the West, if you don't mind riding on smooth cinder track. I can't wait til it gets hooked up with River Legacy in Arlington and eventually, Dallas.

I love the TT. I've been a pathlete for >20 years.

The MUP has its ups and downs. Some sections can be pretty congested with folks who aren't tuned into etiquette and "sharing" -- so it's advisable to cut your speed, temper your expectations and be vigilant for hazards.

Benbrook Lake has a nice stretch of park road ($1 Corp of Engineers pass required for some of it) with some more vertical challenges. City of Benbrook has also placed high priority on bike-friendliness with many marked bike routes.

Yeah, Ft Worth and the Trinity Trails are wonderful. We've ridden our tandem all over the trails, and our favorite stretches are from Gateway to Downtown, and the section that heads W/NW from Downtown towards Lake Worth. Don't like the section towards Benbrook as much, can be a bit congested on the weekends.

We've also ridden from our house in central Arlington to the TRE station in Hurst, taken the train to Downtown, poked around Downtown and the South side. Hop the train to Hurst, head for home, and we've had a fun ride.

Good comments here. We'll definitely be back for the TT sections to the NW and SW. My stoker really liked it.

I think when I was there, I rode the train to the transit center, rode east on 4th street across the river, got on the trail there, went back north around town and then south to Benbrook. On most of the trail, there were very few, practically no, people. It was sort of cool then, that might have helped.
