I have a 1966 Carlton Catalina that I'm trying to sell for a friend (original owner). Original GB bars and stem, Williams cottered crankset. Wheels have been changed out and it is currently equipped with Sunshine hubs laced to clincher rims. Brakes replaced with Campy Record. Derailleurs are currently Campy Record rear and Shimano front. The paint is a little crusty, but the chrome is still in good shape. Any ideas of what he should ask for this bike? Having trouble uploading JPeg photos... Any hints? :twitchy:Thanks!

Size matters. Having the original crank is good, having the other stuff changed out is BAD for value.
The original Dunlop clincher rims are worth at one time more than the whole bike, and probably were 32/40 holes.
You did not mention about the bakes, and the original GB stem would have the brake cable pass through it.
So, more info.

The frame size is 22 1/2" . The original Weinmann centerpull brakes have been replaced with Campy Record sidepulls...

Reads like a 23" as these bikes were measured center to top.
Well, sell the brakes separate.
The balance of the bike $150. or there abouts, if it was just a frame and one wanted to recreate it as original they would spend $400 beyond the cost of the frame. Too bad it got messed with.

Thanks for the help and advice. i agree, it is a shame that many of the original parts have been lost to the sands of time. This would make a nice bike for a 20 mile Sunday jaunt. The frame is very nicely made, but the lack of complete originality does really hammer the value...
