Charity Events - Livestrong Challenge 2010

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Does anyone know when they are going to announce what cities they are going to have the 2010 Livestrong Challenge's in?
Usually it's in January, but this past round I think they announced it in November and registration opened in December.

This year's registration opened on 12/1, with a discount for registering on that day.

I saw a post somewhere that they would be announcing the cities during the Austin weekend (Oct 23-25), but not to expect many changes. I think because the economy makes it difficult for non-profits, they want to focus on strengthening existing challenge city participation instead of adding new cities.

The forecast for tomorrow's ride in Austin is partly cloudy with a high of 79 and 10 mph winds. Why would you want to go anywhere else? Just plan on coming to Austin next year. We will make it worth the trip.

I looking forward to some ride reports!
I did the Austin ride today and this morning, as we were waiting in line, the MC announced the cities and dates for next year. The cities are the same, but I don't remember all of the dates. The only one I paid attention to was Austin, and it is practically the exact same day as this year -- 10/24 rather than 10/25.

Per an e-mail from Rip Scott, the mentor for Region 2, the 2010 LiveStrong Challenge activities in Philly will be split between two days. The walking / running events will be held on Saturday, August 21. The cycling events will be held on Sunday August 22.
I think this is a great idea. It should help with the traffic and parking congestion. I'd also like to volunteer to help on Saturday. (Of course I could have volunteered for Saturday this year; I'm just going on the record now so I'll have more incentive to follow through next year!)

From the LAF (http://www.laf.org):
Seattle, WA: June 20
San Jose, CA: July 11
Philly, PA: August 22
Austin, TX: October 23-24
Registration opens December 1, 2009.
They also state that, "Event format will not be consistent across all cities for 2010."

Apparently they're eliminating the 5k run/walk from the San Jose Challenge. I thought that was interesting since it seemed like half of the participants were 5k people.
I've already started planning for next year. Training of course (hoping to do a longer ride instead of the wimpy short one now that I have a road bike), but also trying to recruit people at work for a team.
