hey theres a Maruishi Road Ace 202. for sale locally for dirt cheap. i dont know anything about these things. are they any good? what should the components be? i havent found really any info online about them. its black i believe mid late 80s.

looks to be in decent shape. alloy wheels etc. havent had a chance to look at it as its quite a drive to get it and would like ot have a good idea what im looking at before i go. but it looks like a decent bike.

Some members here are more familiar than I with the brand. Mariushi was more popular in some regions of the US and Canada, all but unheard of in others. I only started reading about them here other than a few tourers I spotted some 20 years ago,

They made bikes for some other companies, they manufactured themslves. A HUGE factory.
I saw not long ago a Road bike, Tange tubing. it was hi-end.
T-mar or somebody may ID the bike. The serial # should help. For now I would say that if it's Tange #2 or #1 it's certainly worth a look. In anycase try to find -out that much. Along with that, the crank etc. helps too.

Not much online info on Maruishi. With that 202 model number that would be on the lower end of the totem pole, but if for a dirt cheap price and with alloy wheels probably a good buy. The components are likely a mix of lower to mid-range Shimano and Dia-Compe. Dates on the components looked up at vintage-trek.com should point to a year of the bike. I'm guessing a 1970's or very early 1980's one. Maruishi's aren't too common and they pop up here occasionally. I don't think a serial number database has been attempted for this marque.
