I hear there are these things called "jobs" where in exchange for goods or services rendered people will give you "money." With this "money" you should be able to walk into any bike shop and exchange this "money" for any bicycle components you may need.

I think that if you win the Tour de France seven times (especially on a mountain bike...) you'll get plenty of endorsement offers.... :D

You don't say if your racing or doing charity rides. Anyway,Your best bets for funds... 1) Find a good shop willing to give you a good discount (10% or better) But don't expect feebies 2) Join a club 3) Get real lucky and find a shop willing to sponsor you in return that you advertise for said shop. 4) get creative with fund raising...have a bake sale, maybe put a tip jar on the shop counter ETC.
