Commuting - DOH! I forgot my belt.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
So I get to work and realize that my belt's at home. Pant's are size 30, my waist is actually around 28 so they're flopping all over the place. So I go out to the machine shop and take a bunch of zip ties, connect them head to tail. Used 6 of them to make a cheap belt for the day.

I keep an entire set of clothes (including shoes and belt) in my drawer in case I forget something. So far, I've only had to use a t-shirt, after I ran an errand and lunch and came back soaked in seat (it was 92 F with 75% humidity).
Zip ties? Great idea. Your co-worker will either think 1) you're very fashion forward or 2) you forgot your belt. : )

Well yeah, you gotta coordinate, that's why I used the black zip ties.
But that didn't work too well, an hour into it I backed my hip into my chair and that pushed one of the zip ties in really far. As you know, zip ties only go in one direction. It damn near cut my waist in half. So I clipped it and now I'm using a black metal beaded chain cut to size closed with a black stainless bead connector that I positioned in the middle as a buckle.
Sounds like you work somewhere that you could find find lots of useful stuff just getting thrown out.
Me, all I get is extra paper and free printing :(
Me, I'm low-tech. I would of strung a bunch of paper clips together and use that.
I think I have some friends who would use Cat 5 cable into a belt...

I do use some spare cat 5 cable as a clothesline when it rains in the morning and I'm trying to dry my cycling clothes, but I have to draw the line somewhere..
Just say no to network belts! :)

Lol. I'm happy to report the beaded chain belt held up good. A long hard drive ribbon cable would make for a nice wide belt if you're into computers heh.

heh....ide ribbon, duct tape, and a set of ring type keychain rings...the ultimate geek belt :p
Or you could cannibalise an old IDE drive to get both connectors for buckle...
... I need to go out and ride more. :D

I have a really wide flat Q-bus interconnect cable from a DEC PDP/LSI-11/73. How's that for 1970's geeky retrofashion?

I have used a few large rubber bands with a big paper clip buckle, I love the casual dress code.
