Hello,
About three years ago I scavenged an old steel road frame. The frame was full of water, had a fork, some grungy cotter pin cranks, and two wheels. The rims and cranks do not appear to be original. I believe that the frame has been through many iterations in its life time. It looks like its from the 70's-80's. While cleaning it up I found 4 different paint color layers. The original was a sort of retro gold color. No decals or lettering whatsoever. The only identifying features are a french thread bottom bracket and a chrome cap on the crown of the fork. The frame is surprisingly light .The crown cap has an "M" stamped through each side with small wings on each side of the M (not under it like the Moto logo). The head tube has lugs from both top and down tubes (not super fancy). No other lugs are on the bike. I tried to find my frame in old Moto catalogs but have not found anything consistent with the lug patten or the chrome crown cap. I love this bike very much, and have spent countless hours making it beautiful. I don't think its a Motobecane any more, but I wonder what the heck it is... or was.

Please help me find my bike's family tree! Thanks for your help.
I will try to figure out how to get some pictures up too.

cheers.

That sounds like an Astra, which was reportedly another French brand produced by Lawee and Motobecane.
