This weekend my local club, the upper valley mountain bike association, went on a ride with two individuals from IMBA trail crew. This was following a three day slide presentation/trailbuilding school. I have to say it was one of the more unique experiences I have had on a bike. The IMBA couple were fantastic to ride with. They are basically on a two year long assignment travelling around the eastern united states (east of the rockies), spreading the MTB gospel and going on rides. Sounds like a dream job.
There were about 20 people on the ride, and it was the first time I have ever ridden through the woods that many people. The people had a large variety of bikes (all of them newer and nicer than mine), and a large variety of ability (which did not necessarily correspond to the nicety of their bikes). It was a little challenging at times riding through the technical sections with that many people, and I was definitely reminded why I like to carry more speed through the technical sections (they are so much more difficult if you are going slowly). Anyway, I usually see no one other than my riding partner when I am on a ride, and my favorite trail seemed fresh and different with that many people on it. It was nice to be a group who value the sport as much as I do, especially in an area where we have had some trail access issues. One of the riders had a digital camera, and I will try to post pictures if I can get a hold of them.
Does anyone else regularly ride with that many people? Does anyone else have experiences with IMBA?
I guess without pictures this post is more of a "Bike Power" post than anything else.
