I'm planning on listing this Kuwahara on ebay, What kind of reserve should I place on it? Don't want to let it go for a stupid low price.

$180 .. It'll get more for sure. You don't want to shut - down lookers @ 2.
Once bidding starts, it'll escalate well beyond. It's better than most going for 150 which is what you don't want. CL is a differnt story.
It's black w/ chrome, VG group. & 52cm is a sought after size. Tall guys are cheap & large frames are plentifull. Bike's in great shape. I'm no fan of that der. but that's beside the point. DO state the indexed shifting as well as it's having CHRML. FULL frame and what appears to be a CRML. fork.(not steel) Al. all. wheels.. all else in bullet points.
You take good photos and will prevail. I'd sit on it for less. 180 = 280 final price(e-bay)

Rather than having a reserve try an auction with a starting bid that's equal to what your reserve would have been. Buyers are more likely to bid if they know their bids going to be accepted.

To each his own, but I'm with mj; ie. just set a higher starting bid.

+3 Forget about a reserve price, just set a higher starting price.

I would be shocked if that bike has indexed shifting. Those levers and derailleurs are around 1984 vintage. What evidence is there that the bike is indexed?
I would be very surprised if this bike goes for $280. But I would be glad to see it, as I have a couple of very similar bikes.

I had almost the identical bike, by Soma, the Competition.
The shifting is not indexed, but it's ratcheting friction (in some cases, I like it better).
I got $200 and added a rear rack, for $220. He loves it. It had a B17 on it, though.

Kind of along the lines Robbie just stated.... I'll concede that point though.
Like the fork implication, I more wanted to compell the OP to list the presumed virtues.
ANYWAY,.. as far as youi being able to get a price for such... why not man ?
Up where you are, don't you have all them college and artsy types ? they seem to like the old quaint stuff I suppose.. ??

Assuming it is sold on ebay, as a buyer, you have to add $75 or so for shipping. Astute buyers adjust their maximum bid down to compensate for this cost.
Its a bike that would sell locally around here for $200, deduct for shipping and not being able to see in person, and it sells for around $150 on ebay. Anything over the $150 mark is well above average area full market pricing unless it is a local pickup. $280 would be well outside the values around here (add shipping to that amount and as a buyer, you are paying $350 for that bike). Its a really nice bike, ARX is kind of mid range Suntour, nothing great, nothing too shabby either (I have a couple of ARX bikes).

Past personal sales and sales by others communicated through these threads gives us a rather accurate idea of most bike will sell for. Hech, most of know the typical market variances.....
Celeste: Add $35-50
Smaller than 21" add $50
Bigger than a 24" subtract $50
Cali West Coast add $50-75
Portland add $50-75

Would you mind posting a few pics of the bikes you have that are similar? I'd love to see them. :)

The only differance between my bike and the Soma would be the 600 group and wheels if I'm not mistaken, if you look at the headset the Soma is just a re-badged Kuwahara. :thumb:

The most similar is my Lotus Classique. Not sure what the frame is on the Kuwahara, the Classique has a Tange Champion 1 frame and fork.
Also very similar, but a little different components, is my Schwinn Voyaguer 11.8.
