It's a movie about the Leadville 100 MTB race.

Anyone planning on going? I'm probably going to the San Bruno/Tanforan showing.

Where are you thinking of? Perhaps some of us Peninsula -> East Bay commuters could catch the same showing.

At 835 Market St, San Francisco, CA 94103?
Is that a new cinema?

With as many cyclists as there are in SF, that one may fill up quickly.
I'd be in for it there if the tickets haven't sold out.

Yep, that's the address. The confirmation says it's on the 5th floor of the Westfield Shopping Center.

I just bought tickets, so apparently there are still some left.

My girlfriend and I are planning on meeting up for a drink and bite to eat before the show, so anyone that wants to join us is welcome.

I don't know for sure, but maybe this: http://www.annabelles.net/

It's super close to the theater and BART and looks pretty good. There is a bar menu with appetizers and cocktails, and happy hour before 7pm.

Here's my suggestion

The neighborhood and restaurant are gritty, but if Julie Childs can survive it. About 2 blocks from Mall.

Otherwise, OTD gets my vote (its in same Mall as theater).

Just saw the movie and it was funny to see how Lance couldn't change a tire to save his life (it was a tubeless though), but I gotta give him kudos for riding the last 7 miles on a flat. Travis Brown's drop bars seemed gutsy for the technical sections, but they seemed to help on the fast flats. Dave Wiens at 45 years old must have a picture of Dorian Gray in his house. A start at 10,000 feet and 14,000 feet of climbing in a 100-mile race equals pure insanity. I've been inspired by the movie to ride up Montebello Road and come down the Canyon Trail this weekend - a ride I used to do quite often, but I've been spending more time on road rides lately.

Yeah, I thought this was funny too. So next time, you change a flat, and your buddy is asking you why it's taking you so long, just tell him that at least you're doing better than Lance.

I'm always game for an MTB ride. Annadel near Santa Rosa has some spectacular singletrack, but it's a bit of a haul for you peninsula folks.

I thought the movie was great. I do wonder what some of the locals think of Lance coming to town (with "teammate" Shriver pacing him) to beat their guy Dave Wiens.

The helicopter shot of Lance on that high ridge was awesome.

That being said, dinner with the BF'ers was cool and the movie was quite enjoyable. Really makes me want to go ride my MTB (once I get it back from shop).

I saw it in Emeryville last night. Great film! There were times I thought it was going to turn into a big Lance-A-Thon, but they managed to toss in some other great rider stories.

The soundtrack was hilarious. That triumphant and nail biting score had my girlfriend in tears from laughing so hard.

I must say I too thought it was going to be ALL about Lance. You must admit the man is an ANIMAL on a bike. I could not believe he could not change a tire! The best part of the whole film was when they spent time with the average Joe / Jane. Some of those stories were heart wrenching. I loved the guy with the bike from 80's. Loved that retro Vetta helmet. I wish I could have seen his bike and "same front tire since he bought the bike" (yeah, right). All I can say is that I'm glad I went. To all of you OLD FARTS that ride with "bergie", you know who you are, it was a good time. I think we ended up with around 12 people in attendance.

Quite agree - the interviewer was pretty annoying. I enjoyed the stories of the other people who raced it though. I also really liked the cinematography, as powpow notes below, that almost gave me goosebumps - epic scenery. Not so enjoyable for the rest of the pack who rolled through into the bad weather. I also thought that Dave Wiens came over as a really nice guy - humble, but clearly a very impressive athlete.

I may need a flamesuit for this, but following on the point above, I did find it somewhat ironic that Lance repeatedly noted that Leadville '08 taught him that winning the race didn't matter, yet '09 seemed to be all about winning it with Shriver as lead out man. Hopefully it's all good for the town either way - organizing the race is an interesting way to help balance the economic adversity they faced.

I went to the Redwood City showing, at 7:50 they notified us that they are unable to show the film and we could try to make it to san mateo or mountain view.

So bummed, I bought the tix 3 weeks in advance. I guess there will be another encore showing next month thankfully
