I've recently gotten into cycling more seriously and am doing distances of around 30 miles on my 10 year old Trek hybrid. I am considering a new bike, something a bit more suited to these distances and maybe a bit more. I like the more upright position of a hybrid as I have some neck problems. I have looked at bikes like the Cannondale Road Warrior 600 which is I think regarded as a road bike with MB style handlebars and also at the Cannondale Adventure 400, what is regarded as a hybrid with riser handlebars; also the Specialized Sirrus Elite/Sport which is I think another road bike with a MB style riding position.

Is it just a matter of comfort for distances of 30-60 miles? Should I try and adjust to a drop handlebar type of bike - a "true" road bike? Is it just a matter of aerodynamics? What do you think of those bikes that I mentioned? Should I stay away from fork suspension? (I believe the Specialized I mentioned has some sort of special fork that behaves like it has suspension).

As you can see, I'm new to this. All help appreciated.

Kevin.

are you referring to the specialized roubaix that has an elastomeric piece embedded in the cf seat post/seat stay/fork? it's been done in the ski industry for a while now and placing an elastomer on top of the ski allows it to absorb high frequency vibrations...it makes it feel ultra damp

Yep, the sirrus elite comes with a similar cf fork to the roubaix (it could even be the same, I'm not sure).

I ride a Lemond Poprad, a cyclo cross bike. It looks like a road bike, but has drop bars. I had the bike shop swap me out some skinny tires.

Even if i drop down to the lower part of the bar, I am still in a frog position. Not the flat back, 90 degree bend at the waist. A short top tube.

In the frog like postion, I still have to bend my neck to see down the road.

Maybe just sit on a Cyclo bike, and see how it feels.

Hope this helps.
