Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I want to know if the front fork on bikeE is replacable with nomal forks?
because I want to have a bigger front wheel.
Is anyone familiar with modification possibilities for that bike. or have a link to some detailed info.
this is a crucial matter if I will buy a bikeE

I believe that a fork for a slightly larger wheel could be installed on most BikeE models. As far as I can tell, the long stem on the BikeE could be removed and attached to the new fork assuming you matched the head tube length and diameter. However, I wouldn't get rid of the original fork so you could change back if it didn't work out. I was pleasantly surprised at how well mine rode with the standard wheel. There is a board for just these types of questions for Bikee owners and prospective owners http://poleary.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=tech
Hope this was helpful.

?????
How do you know you want a bigger front wheel if you don't HAVE a BikeE???
I had a similar notion when I got my first recumbent (Challenge Hurricane). I rode it about 150 feet and crashed. I was sure that the forks needed some more rake,.. or SOMEthing!
After looking it over more carefully (I got it used, sight unseen) I realized that the bike was very well designed and built, SOOooo, the problem was most likely ... wait for it ...
RIDER ERROR! :p
I have since mastered the twitchy little racer and can now do powerslides on it.
You either need to modify (big PITA with unknown results) or select a different recumbent. There are lots of styles out there with bigger than 16" front wheels. But most are significantly more $ than a BikeE.
If you do get a BikeE and modify it, I'd be interested in hearing how it works for you.
Cheers!

An alternate fork for a BikeE will be a custom job one way or another. They used a 1 1/4" headset on the later versions (earlier ones had simple bushings). Installing a smaller headset and appropriate fork can be done with adapter bushings, but then you need to replace the steering mast and handlebars. It'll end up being an expensive proposition. Better to start off with the bike you want than to modify a BikeE into some sort of mongrel.
