Alt Bike Culture - Bike Furniture

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hey there. My uncle grew up with this guy, Andy Gregg. They were both avid cyclists, and many years ago Andy began making furniture out of bikes. I'm not sure if this counts as alt bike, but it's definitely cool.

Take a look at some of his work:

The chair in this picture belongs to my uncle, it's in his shop. Made out of two bikes that he totaled way back in the day:

Oh, and if you look at the "Exhibited" tab of the website, you read for a bit and then come across that Lance Armstrong has some of the chairs at Mellow Johnny's.

Terrific re-cycle-ing idea! Things just will not sell around here- a trike I sold was returned when the guy could not pay so itis frozen in time. I hate throwing away brand-new parts. Thank for the great ideas what to do with it!
I think it's pretty cool. I'm pretty sure if you wreck a rim or your bike and send the stuff to him, he'll only charge a labor fee and possibly a tube fee (unless you send the tubes). He does great work, and his chairs are actually really comfortable. You can even adjust your arch support if you want, just grab a pump!
Furniture looking cool your uncle did a good work..

Andy Gregg is one cool cat from a great town, he's been making those chairs since the 1980's.
Kudos!

I've had people tell me that this bike-

Looks like a Coffee Table!
Are the chair's comfortable? That one from two front ends in your uncle's garage? It looks extraordinarily cool but I'm having a tough time imagining those inner tubes are going to hold me up and not have the rim digging into the back of my legs.

They are both extraordinarily cool AND comfortable. The inner tubes are inflated and the main seating portion is actually made of old gumwall/sewup tires.

Inflated? Hmmm. Crazy. Echoes of Sleep Number Bed commercials ringing in my head as I ponder the need to periodically pump up my retro cool lounge area.

The only times that we ever need to pump up the tubes is when the shop cat (her name is Bok Choy [all of them are named after vegetables]) climbs up on them and gives them some minuscule holes.

Yes indeed & make 'em out of scrap bike frames. Just the other day a post came up concerning a member's wanting to know how to dispose of old frames in an eco-friendly way. I had my ideas and one was to give them to the LBS as they can get rid of 'em altogether once a month ep.
One member suggested the furniture idea, dif. from theses examples which are more interesting, use more bike and less wood... very cool ! I also like the leaving all painted as is.
