I know Pelotons were right below Paramounts... but how well were they regarded?

Regarded very well. Plenty of information both here in the archives as well as on the net. Though familiar with the name, only just now did I read that your year was a Panasonic built one, makes sense. SL tubing, the standard tubing by Col. was always highly regared, not many other Col. tubesets offered back then, only a few. SP is a thicker walled tubing for added strenth. Not all builders used it, like the SL top notch.
Ever so slightly thicker walls give strength at a very small weight penelty.

I do believe that you knew all this.

Looks like great shape. Original paint? Looks like it. Decals removed? In my mind thats a $300+ frameset in that condition. I don't think quality old frames in great condition are valued highly enough, considering what new steel frames of similar or lesser quality tend to cost. If a Surly Pacer is $440 for frame and fork new, this is surely worth at least that. But I'd put it at $220-340 on the high end, springtime, for practical purposes, in today's market. A lot of the fixie kids are graduating to nice road bikes these days. Look for that next summer..
