BMX - Used BMX Bike - Michigan

OK gentlemen,

I've got a 12 year old boy, about 4'11 and maybe 85 lbs. He's mostly a street rider, but jumped enough curbs to put his Dept Store BMX out of commission with bent rims.

The LBS can't true the wheels & told me a new wheel would cost more than the bike is worth. I don't doubt it. It was a pretty cheap bike.

My son wants to keep riding BMX bikes. I doubt he'll do much more than jump curbs, but he's a tough kid and I'd like him to have a bike that will stand up to him.

He got $150 from grandma to put towards a bike. His friends ride Haro's, so that's what he wants. He's a smart kid though and will listen and consider other brands. Used bikes are fine with him, but I'd still like to get good value for what we spend.

Here are a few that I've found on CL. I'll probably look at 3 of 'em. Which would you look at? Why?

Out of those, I would go with the Mirra 540. You should check out Danscomp though. They have pretty good bikes for a reasonable price.

theres nothing wrong with a bmx bike. your thirteen so i'm assuming your not that tall. its pretty much a standard bike, its better than mountain bikes, whichi are more expensive and are for babies who dont want to break a sweat climbing up a hill. its not dangerous to ride any kind of bike. and you have a nice bike anyway so... ride.

Go with the Haro Mirra 540 out of all of those.

Definitely the Mirra. The Condor would probably be my second choice.

The Fatboys and Supra are way outdated, and real heavy in comparison; also, the Group 1 is a race bike.

I probably should have given myself and all of you, more time to respond. I needed to make a decision without the benefit of your feedback. I didn't ignore your advice...I simply didn't have it in time to make the decision.

Based on pictures...my son really liked the color theme of the Haro Supra. It's a bright yellow with red trim. Has a certain "catsup and mustard" appeal to it I suppose.

I went and had a look at both the Supra and Fatboy. The seller had worked at a bike shop for a number of years and took excellent car of both bikes. The original paint was pristine, the tires were newer, everything spun easily and quietly.

I knew it was on heavy side, but so long as it's durable, the weight didn't bother me much.

I had it looked at my my local bike shop mechanic and he verified what I already knew. The bike was maintained extremely well and is, with the yellow / red colors...kinda eye-catching.

Oh...and I got the bike for $100. Probably not a steal...one could probably spend $100 in worse ways.
