Hello,

I've been lurking for a while, but I wanted to more formally introduce myself. While I have not participated in a randonneuring event yet, I plan to do so in the future. I also have minimal experience with road cycling; however, I have done a fair amount of activities that involve long days of 6-12 hours of athletic output (backcountry touring and long MTB rides). I was looking for an activity which involved long days without much stress on the knees (injuries) and randonneuring seems to be perfect. Plus, I recently moved just outside of Seattle.

I hope to meet some of you at events.

Thanks
Wes

PS-A picture of my Long distance/commuting/touring bike is attached.

Nice bike. Have you got in touch with your local RUSA group?

You mention "just outside of Seattle", so you're in luck. Seattle Int'l Randonneurs (http://www.seattlerandonneur.org) is one of the largest rando clubs in the country. If you're on the eastside, swing by Sammamish Valley Cycles sometime; they may have RUSA and SiR membership papers you can fill out. (SVC is sort of the club's shop, since the SiR president owns the joint.:))

I actually live in Kirkland. I swung by the shop last winter and noticed that they have some nice goodies. I will swing by again.

Thanks

Nice bike!

And you're just down the road from BC Randonneurs (http://www.randonneurs.bc.ca/), who put on a robust schedule of events (some of which steal WA roads). The Vancouver Island routes are particularly scenic and challenging.

There's plenty of info @ VeloWeb's rando pages (http://www.veloweb.ca/randopage.html) too.

Drop by Redhook 9:00 Sunday mornings (with bike!). Some SIR folk there, and friendly - if you can ride safely. Rain or shine. Also, drop by cascade.org and join. Largest club in the country, free rides daily.
