Are you looking for a new bike? The cheapest road bike that I have seen of any name, is a Fuji League MSRP $370 and it's got a Cro-Moly frame, so probably not the lightest. I think a good entry level bike starts around $600. I bought my R600 for $350 or so and it has better components that a new bike twice that much.

There aren't many road bikes under $500, let alone $300, in the US. In the UK, the Raleigh Aveo has a MSRP of £199 including VAT (sales tax) which works out to $366 and change. That's the cheapest road bike I've seen outside an online outlet.

yeah, if you're buying new i think the $480 range is the rock bottom. but that money is better spent on something used, even eBay although that has issues as well.
