Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have a friend who is going through a cronic flat problem always getting flats. Says he has tried everything. does anyone have a suggestion. I also read here on the forums along time ago that someone makes a solid fill that feels like a regular tire. if any one has heard of this where can I find some. I used to have the same problem but I fixed mine when I traded my bike for a new one :D
Forget 'solid fill' tubes. They are heavy and hard. I suggest your friend try a set of Specialized Armadillo tires. The specialized web site has a good selection. $30 each and available online any LBS that is a specialized dealer.
Other things to check: Is the rim strip in good condition? Spoke heads can puncture tubes. Are there any small pieces of glass or wire embedded in the tires causing repeat flats?

You do realize you have angered the CFTS-Gods by starting this thread and you will be next!
I recommend forgetting all of that and laugh at your friend so he can freely laugh at you when it's your turn!

First, analyze the problem. Take a close look at the holes in the inner tubes.
Holes in the inside circumference indicate a problem with the rim or usually the rim tape. Ideally, the rim tape should extend all the way across the rim from flange to flange.
Parallel slits, like a snake bite indicate impact flats. The tire and tube are compressing so much that the rim is actually making those two parallel holes in the inner tube. The easiest cure is a little more air pressure and checking tire pressure often.
Holes in the outer circumference are punctures from glass or thorns or the like. When this happens, it's important to always check your tire to be sure that the culpret isn't still lurking in there. It's helpful to always line up the label on your tire with the valve stem so that you can match up the tire and tube and know where to look. I've even had cases in which I wasn't able to find the thorn that was causing the repeated flats. In that case, replacing the tire was worth the cost because it allowed carefree bicycling again.
