Foo - How many nicknames do you have?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I have 10 that if I was addressed as, I would respond to. Is it cultural?

Good question. I have about 4 nicknames, one is "Snicklefritz" which my dad called me when I was a kid. I have three other nicknames that my siblings made up when they were younger because it was hard to pronounce my real name. Sometimes they still call me by my nickname even though they are all well into adulthood.
My brother has 4 or 5 nicknames. Most of my other siblings have 2 or 3

I have about 4 or 5, only one of which I would respond to anymore. My younger siblings have lots, as I am evil :)

I hate being called out side of my name. Most people called me by my last name when they needed something short.

Not for anything, but I never understood why anyone would hate being called "outside their name?" Please explain. :)
The only people who call me by my given name are (business) and my wife, strangely enough.

I have zero. Closest I've ever come is here, because people call me some variation of my user name.

My name is Courtland it took getting used to, but I like it. I got called courtney and variations there of growing up. Plus I got called names a lot until I got to high school. So because of that I prefer to be called my given name.
plus growing up when my grandma was angry she would have to go the list until she got to me name, calling me my dad's. uncle's. and sometimes the dogs' names

I think it's more personal than cultural.
I know certain folks that just seem to pick up a lot of nicknames, others that don't...like myself. I only have one and it's due to having the same name as the bike shop owner, just to cut down on phone confusion.
I am rather good at making up nicknames that stick. We had a guy on the crew called Kirk that looked sort of like Kevin Sorbo. I called him Kirkules and it stuck bigtime.

Mostly just on....."termite", which I evolved into "KingTermite" myself through some experiences in college.
Although, I do often answer to ****head and dork.

I think that has happened to all of us, my mom also went thru a list of names till she got to me. (I'm the youngest.)

Dunno, I think there are some cultural aspects to it. For example, I don't know any Filipinos/Filipino Americans who are called by their given name consistently.

More than I can keep track of. Many people only know me by one of the nicknames. This can confuse the hell out of my wife.

Only my brother and friends that know me since junior high call me that.
Solo
From Han Solo of Star Wars. At work, co-workers who've worked there longer than 15 years call me that. We are assaigned new vehicles at work about every 2 years but I stubbornly hang on to the one I've been using since 2000. She's the "Millinium Falcon". It's a pride thing, I keep my vehicle well maintained and it never gives me problems and other employees's vehicles run down or they have accidents.
Being one of the longest working employees, I have seniority. When a batch of new vehicles come in, my manager always gives me first dibs to see if I want to exchange my truck but I always say, "No way! She's the Millinium falcon!"
