Howdy!

Just wanted to introduce myself and say "Hi" to everyone. I'm a 37 year old engineer who lives just south of Rochester NY. This is my second year back into cycling as a roadie (former mountain biker) and I'm enjoying every minute of it. I have a Specialized Allez but am already dreaming of a future upgrade and making plans for touring Italy...

I can be found riding around the Finger Lakes, taking an occassional trip to Buffalo or Syracuse, and in general logging base miles for longer rides that I have planned for this summer (my goal is to get 3000 non-trainer miles in this season). Luckily, I have a wonderful wife who is very supportive (often serving as my sag wagon). My next big ride is in a couple weeks to Cape Vincent (140 miles +/-). I was able to talk my wife into picking me up there before heading over to Kingston, Ontario for our 13th wedding anniversary weekend getaway by locating all of the local Kingston scrapping booking and quilt stores :-> I figure it's a small price for a good ride!

I look forward to chatting with y'all.

Ciao,
Mojo GoGo

Consider joining the Rochester Bicycling Club (http://www.rochesterbicyclingclub.org) if you're not already a member. We have many rides in/around the Finger Lakes and the Southern Tier area in addition to rides in Monrow County.

I hope you will enjoy Kingston. It is a very pretty city. As a plus--there are decent roads and paths there to follow--lots to see!

What's the atmosphere of RBC? Ride routes and pace? Etc?

I chatted with some friends last year when I joined the roadie ranks but RBC sounded too hard core to me at the time (I heard one or two of the members are competitive at the National level for 24 hour endurance riding). This spring I went to the informational meeting for GVCC at Park Ave (my thought was I could use the rides for one or two nights of hard training a week) but decided against it because I'm not really into racing (and don't want any Ti biking accessories attached to my collar bone...) even though I do enjoy riding fast and being in a pace line.

I think I'll be too tired for any additional riding - I visited Kingston 5-6 years ago and am just hoping that Mexicalli Rosa's restaurant and the micro brewery we went to are still open.

There are riders of varying abilities, from familes with kids to guys that have done Race Across America and others that do brevets. When the ride starts it breaks up into groups of varying speeds. The fastest group usually averages 20+ on the flats and the slowest is probably in the 13-14 mph range. he longer rides generally have rest stops and most of the time we wait and regroup there. You can always come out for a few rides before you join to see if you like us.

Thanks for the info - I checked the RBC website and saw a couple rides later in August that interest me. I'm looking for longer rides to before doing the Lowlander in Bristol this Septermber (as I rode from Honeoye Falls up to Selkirk Shores State Park a couple weeks ago without doing enough training rides in the 70 mile range and ended up with some sor tendons in my right knee). I'll email you prior to rides that my schedule permits...
