Being a new rider and having ridden solo for a while now to save myself embarassment I'd like to do a group ride but was wonderign what the propper etiquette was? rules to follow etc

There is also a skill set needed for riding in pacelines, if that is what you are thinking of doing. Most rides have starting points and you chat with people. Talk to some people and find some who cruise at about your speed and tell them you are new to group riding. Being new, people can and will make allowances for certain lapses in behavior that you might make on the road.
