The original guitarist of NRBQ, Steve Ferguson, is dead at 60 (http://www.wvpubcast.org/blogs.aspx?id=11592&blogid=340), after a long fight against cancer.

Fergie was not just their guitarist, he wrote and sang many of their best songs from 1968-70. For those who know the band, they can appreciate what it meant to be a true co-leader of any band with Terry Adams in it!

(ca. 1968; SF at far left)
Steve left the band after only a few years but he left his mark for certain; Al Anderson, who replaced him, often remarked he was a big fan and that Fergie was a big influence on his playing.
He had a quirky style, equal parts C&w, free jazz and garage band swill.

The group's eponymous first album (1969, Columbia Records) is well worth owning, as is a recent live album (http://www.amazon.com/Ludlow-Garage-1970-NRBQ/dp/B000H0M57E/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1255101119&sr=1-8) that really showcases his singing and playing abilities.

RIP, sir; you were one of a kind.
