Northern California - Would I get in trouble if I modified a Foxy's route?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I think this has been discussed but I'm not sure if this specific question was asked. What they would do to me if I shortened the metric or lengthened the 50km? I haven't trained enough to do the 68 mile metric and the 50km is too short. My unmentionables can handle a 4 hr ride but not much more. The metric will take me 5 hr or so and the family ride will take less than 3. I only wanna ride 4. Will they boot me off and send me home without lunch? Will they ban me from future Foxy's? Or will they simply say, don't do that again you bad boy? What do you think?

If there is a DBC member/Foxy's organizer on this board, my name is John "bigbossman" and I ride a fuschia Italian bike.

Nice try - you have a 1 in 6 chance of calling the right bike...... now a zero chance. :D

I went off the reservation last year, after discussing it with a ride staffer. He advised that there would be no support until we reached the park lunch area, but otherwise had no objections.

But, I'm a charismatic fellow - everybody loves me. You, they might line up against the wall or maybe force you to rotate through latrine duty.

Foxy's is a great century for people who don't think they can do one.

You ride about 20 miles, have a nice rest, and eat a lot of food. You ride about 21 miles, have a nice rest, and eat a lot of food. You ride about 22 miles, put your bike on the car, eat a lot of food, and go home and rest.

And preferably, doing it with friends who aren't trying to set 'personal best' times. That's the killer for long rides, pushing too hard early on).

That said, if you are not registered, it is probably too late, as the 100 m and K are full for pre-registrations.

I'm registered for the 100km. I guess I'll see how I'm feeling after the first 40 before trying to find a shorter route back.

There's an old saying that applies here:

"It's easier to obtain forgiveness than permission."

Ride what you feel like riding. Nobody is going to care, except possibly your "unmentionables."

Oh, and those in NorCal who will laugh at you and accuse you wearing your sister's cullottes for daring to ride less than 125 miles whilst maintaining an average speed of less than 27.3 mph, Uphill. Into a hurricane-force headwind. On a fixie. They will care.

Where's the ignore button?

Can you sign up for the longer one and get a ride back from support if you can't make it the full distance?

It was suggested to me at one ride to do that because I knew I couldn't do 50 miles, but 10 was too short. I didn't because I didn't want to be "that person" that couldn't make it back, but some people don't mind.

I want to leave the sag wagon to those who really need it. I can make my way back by planning bail out routes ahead of time. I won't ride past Wednesday to give my sensitive parts a break.

That was another one of my reasons for not wanting to do that. The person who made the suggestion was one of the volunteers and apparently he'd been told to tell people it was okay. I don't know why. Seems to me it uses the resources in the wrong way.

Shouldn't be a problem at Foxy's. The Double Century, however, is a different story. If a rider is missing/fails to check in, the search party is formed.

Nope. I was down at the track taking pictures. Haven't been on the bike in a while but hope to be soon.

I'd be careful for courtesy's sake, that the people riding within eyeshot behind you know that you're going off-course though... there's so many people it's easy to just follow other riders than check for road arrows. Happened to me in Santa Rosa in the rain... whole bunch of us lost on River Road thanks to one guy.

Didn't get a good look. Maybe I'll see you on Saturday.

There are a number of bail-out points. I know someone who's thinking of checking in, going home to go back to sleep, then await a phone call as to when the group will be at the finish for the end-of-ride meal. The only wrong way to do it is to not do it at all.

Going back home for more shut-eye then returning for food. That's funny but not a bad idea!
