Hello! I have an old road bike which I'm trying to breathe new life into - basically this bike is a frankenstein bike.
I have a lot of hills around where I ride, so I wanted to gear the bike lower to use it as a hill climber, yet I was hesitant to put a triple crankset for fear of having to replace the derailleurs.
So one of the catalogue outfits had this crankset on sale with a 50 outer and 34 inner chainring, but you needed an ISIS 108 mm bb. - So I bought them.
Next, I installed them only hand tight on my bike just to make sure everything was lining up - (also because I forgot to buy the ISIS bb torque tool, like 20 bucks). But now I've noticed what I originally feared - my front derailleur doesn't seem to come out far enough for me to be able to shift to the large ring! ACK! Tech support told me that it's probably because everything is on there only hand tight. -
But even for hand tight, it looks like the derailleur needs at about a chain width more to go out to have good clearance. I'm a little worried. I have 80's model Shimano Dura-Ace EX which still work pretty well, and I didn't want to have to replace -
do you agree that it's probably just that everything needs to be cinched up?
